Honhstar Achieves Another Success in the Laboratory Technician Skills Competition

On September 28, at the “Gathering Talents in Yuandu, Boosting Weifang through Skills” 2020 Weifang City Vocational Skills Competition—the “Shihua Cup” Building Materials Physical Testing Technician Vocational Skills Contest—dozens of companies from the waterproofing industry and nearly sixty laboratory analysts competed on the same stage.

On September 28, at the “Talent Gathering in Yuandu—Skills Boost Weifang” 2020 Weifang City Vocational Skills Competition—the “Shihua Cup” Building Materials Physical Inspection Skills Competition—dozens of companies from the waterproofing industry and nearly sixty laboratory analysts competed on the same stage. After fierce competition, Yan Huihui and Sui Fengling from Honhstar’s R&D Center won second and third prizes, respectively, thanks to their solid professional foundation. This award marks the third consecutive year that the company has sent different personnel to participate in the competition and achieved excellent results for three years in a row.
Yan Huihui and Sui Fengling not only demonstrated Honhstar’s laboratory technicians’ solid professional knowledge in the physical testing of waterproof materials, but also fully showcased the spirit and overall strength of Honhstar’s laboratory staff, setting an example for other employees and establishing a model role.
Over the years, Honhstar has always attached great importance to talent cultivation and development, sending laboratory technicians to Suzhou every year to attend professional training for waterproof material inspectors. In September this year, the company reached a cooperation agreement with the Research Institute of China National Building Material Group, a central state-owned enterprise, to jointly establish a waterproof technology R&D center, thus opening a new chapter in industry-university collaboration. As the saying goes, “You reap what you sow.” The company has successively been awarded such honorary titles as “National Standardization Laboratory for the Waterproof Industry,” Weifang Municipal Enterprise Technology Center, Weifang Municipal “One Enterprise, One Technology” R&D Center, and Weifang Municipal Self-Repairing Waterproof System Engineering Laboratory.
This competition not only served as a comprehensive review of the quality inspection team at the R&D Center’s years of outstanding performance, but also provided an assessment and acceptance of the company’s recent efforts to strengthen the R&D Center, continuously increase research investment, and prioritize the comprehensive development and recruitment of talent. This recognition is both a reward for past endeavors and a powerful source of motivation as we embark on a new journey. Moving forward, we will remain committed to a dual-pronged approach that combines talent development with technological innovation, striving to achieve leapfrog growth for the enterprise.
Teacher Sui’s commentary: In “Yan’s Family Instructions,” there is a passage that says, “Doing too many things with little skill is not as good as mastering one; the shrewd rat may have five talents, but it cannot become a skilled craftsman.” This means that it is better to focus on one thing than to try to do too much and spread oneself too thin. After all, truly versatile people are rare—just as a general practitioner who can treat every ailment is far less valued than a specialist. As a Chinese saying goes, “Master one trick, and you can get by anywhere.” With your own secret weapon or signature skill, you can make your way in the world and thrive in society—why bother exhausting yourself trying to master all eighteen martial arts? An economist in the West once said that meticulous division of labor is the order of social progress. At Honhstar, as we have grown in scale, our departmental and hierarchical systems have become increasingly well-established, with clearer divisions of labor and responsibilities. Every position now has extremely high requirements for specialized knowledge and skills. There is a natural order in learning—some excel earlier, others later—and in their respective fields, Yan Huihui and Sui Fengling have achieved today’s remarkable success precisely because of their unwavering dedication and focus over many years in quality inspection roles.
