The Qingdao World Expo City Convention Center Complex project is under general contract construction by China Railway Construction Engineering Group Co., Ltd., with a total floor area of 132,000 square meters. Centered on conventions and exhibitions, the complex integrates multiple functions—including culture, tourism, business, and residential use—into a large-scale convention and exhibition hub. It serves as the permanent venue for the East Asia Marine Cooperation Platform, an important platform under China’s Belt and Road Initiative. The project was awarded the Luban Prize in 2020.
Honhstar is a well-established waterproofing manufacturing and construction company. After several rounds of fierce competition, it ultimately won the bid and undertook most of the waterproofing works for this project.
According to reports, from the very outset of the project, the developer incorporated environmental protection facilities directly into the preliminary design, explicitly prohibited open-flame operations in the contract, and established a dedicated environmental management body. The project’s total investment in environmental protection measures amounts to RMB 15 million, fully demonstrating the green and low-carbon ethos underlying its construction.
Based on the construction locations of the project and the requirements for environmental protection and civilized construction, the Honhstar Project Department selected non-toxic, harmless, and environmentally friendly products that can be applied directly to damp substrates without generating dust, ensuring safety, environmental protection, and zero pollution. After our unit’s recommendation and extensive evaluation, we ultimately decided to use cement-based permeability-crystallization waterproof coatings, polyurethane waterproof coatings, self-adhesive polymer-modified asphalt waterproof membranes, polymer-cement mortar waterproof coatings, and polymer-cement waterproof coatings as waterproofing materials.
With the development of the social economy, the state has set higher requirements for ecological and environmental protection. As a responsible waterproofing company, Honhstar has continuously increased its R&D investment in recent years, striving to achieve green manufacturing and build eco-friendly factories. Currently, six units comprising 24 product varieties have obtained China Environmental Labeling Product Certification, and applications for green building material products are actively being submitted.
